Robert, Bob and Carmen's second child, was born July 25, 1948, at an American Air Base at Irmagawa, Japan. He married Susan Michelle Shofstall (born October 4, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan) on June 13, 1970, in Sarpy County, Nebraska. Robert and Susan had three children, Julie Melissa, born October 15, 1974; Robert John "Rob", born July 30, 1976; and, Meaghan Courtney, born November 5, 1986.

Robert served in the U.S. Air Force from 1970-1996 and retired in the rank of Colonel. He was a pilot and flew B-52s along with other smaller aircraft; serving over 9 years overseas with a year in Munich, Germany and 4 years in Berlin.While assigned to the Joint U.S. and Russian Forces in Berlin, Germany, the infamous Berlin Wall was torn down.

Robert was an Air Attache in the U.S. Embassy in Moscow at this time.

Bob and Susan's daughter Melissa received her BA and MA in education from the University of Florida. Melissa married Adam Putnam who was elected in November, 2000, to represent Florida in the U.S. House of Representatives. Adam was sworn in as the youngest member of the 107th Congress in 2001.

Melissa and Adam became parents June 26, 2001, with the birth of their first child Abbygail Anna Putnam. She was Bob and Susan's first grandchild and first great grandchild of Bob and Carmen.
