Mimi Busch (Sayre), born March 28, 1901, first born of Garrett and Gertrude Hortgen Busch, grew up in a prosperous family in New Jersey. She married H. Edward "Big Ed" Sayre who was a partner in an insurance company in New York. They had three children, Richard Wallace Sayre (born July 31, 1925), Margery Sayre (born February 24, 1933) and George Edward Sayre (born June 18, 1935). Ed became disenchanted with living in the city, especially during the cold, snowy, slushy winters. Their California vacation home beckoned and in the mid-late 1940s, Ed and his partner agreed to divide their company. Ed concentrated his business from Chicago west.
